Hobgoblins, also known as Goblin-Men, are cruel, militaristic creatures, known for their love of warfare. Hobgoblins were created by the mad tyrant Vecor in the third age. When Vecor was prophesied to be slain by his own orcs, he sought to create perfect warriors incapable of treachery. Vecor used black magic to crossbreed humans and goblins, hoping to produce warriors with the coordination of humans and cruelty of orcs. Unfortunately, Vecor overlooked the human trait of ambition, which was inherited by the hobgoblins. At the very height of his rule, Vecor was murdered by Sroz, his overambitious right-hand man. Sroz proved unable to control Vecor’s hobgoblin masses and was ultimately slain in the bloody wars of succession that followed Vecor’s rule.
Description
Hobgoblins are fairly standard sized when compared with similar creatures, typically standing at half a foot shorter than the average human. Hobgoblins are genderless, though typically refer to themselves as male. Hobgoblins are fairly slim for their size, though their bulky muscle-mass adds weight to their otherwise light frames.
Hobgoblin skin is almost always a pale shade of a vibrant colour such as blue, green, or red. Hobgoblin ears are incredibly long and tend to twitch and swivel much like a cat. Hobgoblin mouths are large, spanning most of their already sizeable heads. Hobgoblin eyes are bright red or yellow and have a tendency to glow slightly in the dark.
Hobgoblins can grow a decent amount of hair on their chins. Despite this, hobgoblins never grow hair on the top of their heads. Hobgoblins are usually instructed to shave their facial hair, as beards are often used to signify military and governmental status within hobgoblin society.
Personality
Hobgoblins are cruel and rigid in their foul regimes, fully committed to following and enforcing the brutal decrees issued by their betters. Hobgoblins typically have little sense of individual possession, openly sharing most resources available within their community. If an object would be of greater benefit to another hobgoblin, it will usually be redistributed. Hobgoblins expect nothing but strict obedience from their fellow orcs and myriad of slaves. This expectation of complete control often puts hobgoblins at odds with their lackeys, though hobgoblins are quick to remind others who’s in charge through swift acts of violence and cruelty.

Settlements
Hobgoblins typically settle in damp caves, dark forests and gloomy plains, constructing simple buildings with a surprising degree of effectiveness. Though hobgoblins can create their own dwellings, it is not unusual to find them living in the repurposed ruins of foreign settlements, often those they raided themselves. Unlike other orcs, hobgoblins dislike filth and maintain a sense of composure and cleanliness within their settlements.
Trade
Hobgoblins can produce a wide range of high quality items and equipment, though they are typically reluctant to trade with their neighbors. On occasion, smaller settlements will bribe hobgoblins to stay clear of their land. Hobgoblins are known to oblige such deals, assuming they get their payments on time.
