Boone, Oliver and Raz waste no time, quickly composing themselves before fleeing the now burning manor. The three sprint down the busy streets of Black Hollow, torn between where to head next. Raz remembers the thieves’ hiding spot at the Goldenvale Brewery, splitting off from the paladins to hide. Boone and Oliver feel their best chance is to head to the Soulwatch Cathedral, where the clergy may protect them from any vampiric threats.
When the paladins arrive, the priests of Anima are apprehensive to allow Oliver entrance, considering he is not an established clergyman. After some negotiation, the two are allowed to hide within the cathedral. In the brewery attic, Raz is busy changing his identity, smearing dirt on his face and changing his clothes. Raz feels more comfortable now, as his new alias “Hansel” was never involved in the incident at Ravenvale Manor. Six hours pass before the paladins hear a loud knock on the cathedral door. The door opens and a small squad of armed guardsmen enter the building, clearly searching for the two fugitives. The paladins decide to turn themselves in and boldly approach the guards. Boone and Oliver are arrested for murder, arson, theft and treason, before being swiftly taken away.
The two paladins are taken to the stocks, their weapons confiscated. Oliver gets the standard stocks, though Boone is placed in one sized for children. Three guards patrol the area as the sun begins to set. The two attempt to reason with the guards, but to no avail. One guard in particular denies the existence of vampires and provides a logical reason for the events to have transpired had Bloodford the butler not clearly shown his true form. The two ultimately decide to use their powerful magic to briefly mind-control the guards, allowing them to escape from Black Hollow. Boone and Oliver decide to rest in a secluded cornfield so that they may recover their stamina. They are awoken by two goblins in the night, Oliver promptly scares them both off with a frightening facial expression.
