Lenstein is a county within the duchy of Loneda. It is the second largest county in the duchy, though has the second lowest overall population due to its large regions of untamed wilderness. The county has limited access to fertile farmland though exports large quantities of crafted goods throughout the duchy. A foreboding energy envelopes the county and there is slightly less sunlight here than the rest of Loneda.
History
Founding (Third Age)
Lenstein was originally founded as an independent colony of humans fleeing the devastating aftermath of the Divine War. The county found its footing fairly early on, though was unable to expand due to hostile geography and political tensions along the southern border. Despite several attempted invasions by Loneda, Lenstein was able to hold its ground and ultimately retained its independence throughout the age.
Integration (Fourth Age)
Once Loneda had sworn allegiance to the Aetern Empire, the people of Lenstein were put under great political pressure to join the empire peacefully, lest their land be seized by invading imperial armies. Lenstein ultimately chose to comply, becoming a vassalized county of Loneda under peaceful terms. Though the people of Lenstein were initially reluctant to forfeit their freedom, they benefitted from increased stability and fortune under imperial rule.
