Primordial Age

The Serpent

Long before The Planes first came to be, a colossal serpent known as It That Dreams drifted across an empty void. The divine creature swam endlessly and without destination, for it had always done so. Yet something stirred within the serpent’s mind, it resisted the urge to continue swimming and instead stopped amidst the darkness. The serpent realized that it was tired and coiled itself into a ball, where it fell asleep.

As the creature dreamed, it created primitive worlds of earth, water, air and fire. Elementals rose from the chaos, the first sentient creatures unknowingly created by the serpent. The beings existed peacefully for a time, the strongest among them became the Elemental Lords, the first Immortals and leaders of their new pantheon.

Great Elemental War

The Elemental Lords came to view each other with suspicion, only trusting their own elementals. The fickle Ventus was first to strike, sending his minions to attack Terra, as he believed she was the biggest threat to his reign. The practical Terra did not wish to retaliate against such a powerful foe, instead marching into the domain of Aqua. Furious Ignis craved an easy fight and so he sent his elemental followers to attack Ventus and Terra while they were distracted.

In time, all four Elemental Lords were at war with one another, aimlessly fighting in petty feuds over territory. These wars created fused elementals of smoke, ice, mud, magma, steam and dust who acted as mercenaries and diplomats for the Elemental Lords as needed. Yet as The Serpent continued to dream, more creatures arose from the chaos.

Rise of The Titans

Dozens of powerful creatures known as Titans sprung into existence across the elemental planes. Unbound to any particular element, these beings were able to create their own society. Stricken with envy, the elementals ceased much of their warring and turned their attention on the titans, hoping to destroy them. The titans desperately searched for a way to fight the overwhelming numbers of their foes, scouring the multiverse for any signs of weakness. In their studies, the titans discovered a great power at the centre of the multiverse. It That Dreams tortured the minds and souls of the titans who had dared to look upon it. Only six titans survived this harrowing encounter, though they had gained mighty powers from contact with such a powerful being.

The survivors became the Golden Pantheon, the second Immortals and champions of the fight against the elementals. The new pantheon used their power to create the first Humans. The humans took up arms and aided in the war against the elementals, casualties were high but the pantheon was able to hold out, bolstered by their human forces. When it was clear that the elementals could not overpower the new immortals, they retreated to their home planes, where they continued to wage endless war against each other.
