Undead

Bestiary

Undead are beings suspended in a state between life and death, roaming the lands though not fully present within them. Undead are usually the result of a myriad of dark curses, varied in appearance and effect though similar in function. Some undead retain their soul or spirit, keeping their memories and select aspects of their personality. Other undead are hollow and soulless, reanimated wholly by the energy of the curse that afflicts them. Most undead were once mortals, though there have been cases of undead created from other creatures as well.

There are two varieties of undead, corporeal and incorporeal. Corporal undead possess a physical body, often trapped in a perpetual state of decay. Some corporeal undead feed on the living, maintaining their forms by feasting on flesh and blood. Other undead are incorporeal, detached from a physical form though able to impact the world around them. These undead can sometimes manifest a projection, appearing as a translucent image or sensory effect.

Most undead envy the living to some extent, some going as far as to attack those who possess what was robbed from them long ago. Despite these violent outbursts, many undead are fully capable of simple thought and even reasoning. As undead are not alive, they cannot feel pain and most have little to no sense of self-preservation. The relentless nature of undead has proved shocking to the living on many occasions testing the morale of even the most stalwart combatants.
